Diary of a Designer Girl:

The Fall Décor Swap

It’s about this time of year that everyone you run into starts to complain about how the weather is starting to cool off and pumpkin spice latte’s are coming back in full force. You’re starting to bring your sweater collection out and your rolled up denim is starting to resume their purpose of full length pants…mhmmm…that’s right – Fall y’all.

It’s also a great time of year to start to think about how to transition your home’s décor seasonally from the Spring/Summer months into the cooler months. Isn’t it funny how we decorate and style our homes with warm intentions in the Fall/Winter month’s and do exactly the opposite in the Spring/Summer with trying to introduce cooler, fresher elements. It’s a definite psychological thing – but I can’t complain because the more blankets the better for this gal as it chills down. I’m littering shivering just thinking about it.

I wanted to give a quick cheat sheet as to how to complete that Fall look without reinventing the wheel budget or style wise. See below for my 2017 festive Fall seasonal tips.

Metal Swap: I personally believe there is a metal for every occasion. If you are a lover of solely silver - I recommend bringing out gold and brass pieces that you may have tucked away because you just aren’t a fan. They really bring a layer of warmth to your space while adding something different than a brushed nickel or polished chrome would.

Layer Up: The best way to achieve a cozy feel as we venture into September is to think layers. You want to introduce pillows with texture, throws with a pattern, and fabrics with a chunkier linen knit.

Get Lit: Candles, candles, candles. Do I need say more? Tis the season to get all of your best yummy smells out to get your space emanating your favourite scent. Whether you like the baked good vibe or an outdoorsy smell – let there be light!

Take it Outside: Make sure to add blankets and patio lighting to your outdoor patio area as well. Don’t show bias to just your interior space – there’s still time to enjoy the outdoors before the flurries fly.

Act Natural: Be sure to incorporate natural elements into your design scheme this time of year. While florals and fresh scents are a must during the warm months – it’s a great way to merge by weaving branches and other botanicals that the Fall months offer up. (I love white pumpkins <3)

Door Décor: A seasonal wreath is the perfect way to welcome Fall to your home’s exterior. Not a wreath lover? That’s fine – Pinterest has 101 ways to whip up something DIY for your front door. So, get crafty this season.
